Sending love and prayers for all. Every time I pass the house downtown I remember the times I used to stay over with Ann. I loved Mrs. Parks and those were wonderful times of my life as a child.

Ms. Park was such a big part of my life growing up. Her door was always open, she was always full of humor, wit and advice. She was always involved in something and sometimes a bit of everything. She will be missed.

Melba Elizabeth "Beth" Sayler-Park

2022-06-14

We regretfully announce the passing of Melba Elizabeth (Beth) Park, 77, of Fernandina Beach, on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.

She was born July 21, 1944, to the late Samuel Walter (Sammie) Sayler and Melba Jones in Atlanta, GA. Beth graduated from Fernandina Beach High School in 1962. After graduating high school, she attended South Georgia College, Douglas, GA, earning a certificate on June 6, 1964. While a student, Beth was a member of the Glee club, drama club, and an exclusive member of the Phi Beta Lambda, the largest business career student organization in the world.

Beth enjoyed her four children: one daughter and three sons, nine grandkids and six great-grandkids, and numerous extended family members.

Beth was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fernandina.

She worked for the Nassau County School system, initially as a teacher's aide, in 1983, until retiring in 2011 as a paraprofessional. Working with the students and their parents was very rewarding, as the students gained life skills for their future independence. Beth enjoyed working with the Special Olympics. Students, past or present, upon seeing Beth, after school and while out and about town, her former students would call to her, “Mrs. Park,” and then, with the biggest smile, they’d light up wherever she was.

Her hobbies included searching genealogy, traveling to graveyards and clerk’s offices, and combing old records. She always had a book to read, even reading a book while watching tv. As a member of the Eastern Creek Indian tribe and she enjoyed going to the retreats. Beth spent many years with the Shrimpboat Festival Committee. She was organizing and planning while maintaining order with the antique vendors at the festivals. She loved playing bingo on Thursday night at the American Legion Post 54.

Beth was preceded in death by parents Sammie and Melba Sayler. She’s survived by Ray (Jennifer) Park of Douglas, GA; Ann (Jamie) McKinnon of Fernandina; James (Debbie) Park of Douglas, GA and Tom (Heidi) Park of Williston, ND. Her grandkids Jamie (Todd) Dill of Callahan, Mason Park of Gainesville, FL, Christopher (Chastity) Park of Fernandina Beach, Hunter McKinnon of Fernandina, Ashley Park of Fernandina, Josh Park of Eagle, ID, Allie (Deja) Jones of Boise ID, Kaleb Park of Eagle, ID and Kim Park of Williston, ND.

The family will hold visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Monday, June 20, 2022, and the funeral will be from 11 to 12 at Oxley Heard Funeral Home. The family will hold a small service at the graveside.

Pallbearers will be Hunter McKinnon, Christopher Park, Mason Park, Todd Dill, Josh Park, and Kaleb Park.
As momma loved all things beautiful, flowers and plants send to Oxley Heard. I’m sure one of us inherited her green thumb—or donations to the American Legion, Post 54, in Beth’s name.
